Pleasantville, Westchester County, New York – In June, 2007 Beeradvocate magazine and Beeradvocate.com released their 2007 “Top 50 American Breweries” and Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. of Pleasantville, New York was ranked #5.

Beeradvocate magazine with over 6,000 subscribers and Beeradvocate.com with membership of over 112,000 from 194 counties is an extremely popular gathering spot for beer enthusiasts and has beer statistics of every kind.  The list of the “Top 50 American Breweries” is based on user reviews submitted to Beeradvocate.com.

Captain Lawrence Brewing which opened it’s doors in January 2006 has seen extraordinary success in its first 18 months of operations.

In 2006, Captain Lawrence Brewing won the Mathew Vassar Brewer’s Cup as the Best Craft Brewery in the Hudson Valley at the TAP New York beer festival.  The brewery also took home gold medals for Captain’s Reserve Imperial India Pale Ale in two judging categories.  At the 2007 TAP New York festival, a silver medal was earned for Captain’s Reserve. 

Captain Lawrence currently sells four year-round beers:  Pale Ale (5.3% ABV) brewed with pale and English crystal malts and hopped with Columbus, Cascade and Crystal hops; Liquid Gold (6.5% ABV) brewed with a Belgian yeast strain and Moroccan coriander; Smoked Porter (7.0% ABV) brewed with Bamberg smoked malts; and Captain’s Reserve Imperial IPA (8.5%) a double IPA.

Seasonal beers include, St. Vincent’s Dubbel, a Beligan-style abbey ale; Xtra Gold an American adaptation of a Belgian Tripel and dry hopped with Amarillo hops, Nor Easter, brewed with dark malts, elderberries and aged in bourbon barrels, Smoke from the Oak, smoked porter aged in French oak wine barrels which previously held merlot and pinot noir, Cuvee de Castleton, brewed with wild yeast, muscat grape and aged in French oak wine barrels, and Smoke from the Oak in both bourbon barrel aged and rum barrel aged versions.

Head brewer and owner, Scott Vaccaro, is a graduate of the University of California Davis prestigious Fermentation Science program.  Vaccaro interned with Adnams Brewery in Southwall, England while at UC Davis and after graduation worked as a bewer for Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico, California the countries largest craft brewery.
